These Grade 2 1/2 - 3 pieces were commissioned by the Princeton (Texas) Independent School District and the Princeton Band Boosters Association as a suite, entitled Prince Dowlin Suite. Each movement celebrates one of the middle schools of the district, and the name honors one of the founders of Princeton, Prince Dowlin, a land owner and town promoter. Fanfare and Caprice, in recognition of Clark Middle School, features a short fanfare followed by happy and joyful themes meant to portray the care-free energy of middle school students everywhere.
The poignant melody of Serenade is derived from songs suggested to the composer by Deborah Southard. Named for her and her husband James, this movement celebrates both Southard Middle School and the Southard family.
With an appreciative nod to James Ployhar and other young band writers, Fanfare, March, and Procession commemorates the opening of Mattei Middle School in the fall of 2023. The structure of this movement depicts the history of the Princeton ISD band program.
